If you haven’t been considering cleaning your mattress lately, consider this: you’re spending six to seven hours every night on it. Dust, dead skin cells, sweat, and oil, all find their way into your mattress during that time. As one of India’s leading mattress manufacturer.
we at Centuary suggest that you follow this advice every few months to keep your mattress fresh, dust-free, stain-free and odour-free!
A few items to keep handy while cleaning out your mattress:
- a vacuum cleaner with an upholstery attachment
- a dish soap to get stains out
- laundry detergent
- baking soda
- cleaning cloths
- cold water
First things first, completely strip your mattress, and always change your bedding at least once a week. Washing your sheets, pillow cases etc., in hot water is highly recommended.
Step two: Grab that vacuum cleaner and use the upholstery attachment on the entire surface of the mattress – and don’t forget the sides of the mattress. Pay extra attention to the seams to get any hidden dirt or dust.
Once this is done, you can spot-treat any specific stains you want to get rid of. Spray the cleaner (detergent or liquid dish soap mixed with water) onto a clean white cloth, and then focus on the the stained area with the cloth. After that, apply cold water to a different clean cloth and keep blotting until the stain lifts. The main aim here is to use as little product and moisture as possible.
The best thing to do after this, is to put your mattress out in the sun. But if this isn’t an option for you, you can sprinkle baking soda all over the mattress and leave it for a few hours (the longer, the better!) – this ensures that any remaining moisture or odour is absorbed from the mattress. Don’t forget to leave a window open during this process and let some light in – the UV rays from the sun will help kill any remaining bacteria in your mattress.
Once the baking soda has done its’ thing, run the vacuum cleaner again over the surface of the mattress.
Now, flip your mattress, and repeat all the previous steps. Also, important note: flip your mattress every now and then irrespective of your deep-cleaning schedule as this helps the mattress stay in shape for longer.
And our last, but best tip: invest in a good mattress protector. You can check out ours, Matt-Shield
on our website. A mattress protector will make cleaning easier in the future and also protect your mattress from spills, dirt, and other things you don’t want in your bed! Every Centuary mattress also comes with Centuary Protect – an antimicrobial shield that will protect your mattress from bacteria, fungi and microbes. And what’s more, it is recommended by the National Health Academy.
