Let’s start with the basics:
There are essentially 3 key levels of firmness in mattresses – Soft, Medium or Firm, and Extra Firm. But in order to know which level of firmness is right for you, you need to know understand that your sleeping position plays a role here. Are you a side sleeper, aback sleeper or a stomach sleeper? Your weight also plays a factor, as does the fact If you generally sleep hot, i.e., if you sweat when you sleep or if you’re a cool sleeper. Do you have back pain or other orthopaedic issues?
Now that we’ve covered some of the most important factors to consider when shopping for a new mattress, it’s time to figure out exactly what type of mattress you need. We’re going to introduce you to the most popular options. We’ll describe what they are, how they feel, and who’s likely to be most comfortable on them. We’ve only been India’s Sleep Specialist for about 3 decades, so we hope you’re taking notes! With this guide, you’ll have the knowledge to find the best mattresses in India which have the right firmness and features to suit your needs and deliver great sleep night after night.
Foam Mattresses:
These mattresses are made entirely with foam and they tend to provide adequate contouring to the body, pressure relief, and motion isolation – a foam mattress is an ideal mattress for side sleepers and couples. Among foams that are used in these mattresses, memory foam is the most well-known. Check out our mattresses Tuff and Pixel here.
Spring Mattresses:
Spring mattresses, (both Pocketed Spring and Bonnell spring) have a coil-based support system in combination with additional layers of foam or coir. While the coils offer some support, these mattresses often lack in pressure relief – so a Spring mattress isn’t something you want if you’re looking for a specific mattress for back pain. Their sleeping surface is bouncier and has limited motion isolation. Our favourite Spring mattresses have to be Sleepables, India’s first Pocketed Spring Mattress-in-a-box, and Spirit, a Bonnell Spring mattress from our all new My Power Matt Collection.
Coir Mattresses:
Coir Mattresses are naturally firmer, owing to the property of the material itself. Mattresses made from Coir are ideal for proper spine support, and are thus highly recommended for those suffering from chronic back pain. Coir as a material is tough, elastic, and strong so it doesn’t deteriorate over time, and it also does not retain moisture and has excellent temperature management qualities, so Coir mattresses always have perfect air-flow in them, and they prevent allergies and asthma. For anyone looking for the best mattress for health and also one that will support your back perfectly, check out Ortho Active.
Hybrid Mattresses:
Hybrid Mattresses have two key elements: a spring support core, and a significant foam comfort system. The comfort layers can include contour foam, green gel memory foam or latex, in combination with Pocketed Spring or Bonnell Spring and sometimes will even include a shorter layer of coils (called microsprings). These mattresses provide a blend of bounce and contouring with low heat retention and can be a good fit for sleepers in any position depending on exactly how they are built. Our favourite Hybrid Mattress, is Health Spa.
We hope that knowing the basics about each of these types of mattresses can serve as a foundation upon which you can continue your search for mattress for better sleep.
